I was graduated Master of Urban & Regional Planning at Virginia Polytechnic Institute & State University (Virginia Tech, 2020). My research covers a range of topics in Landscape Architecture, and Environmental Planning and Management, including urban regeneration, urban regional environmental planning, land use, and data analytics & visualization in planning, particularly in the area of vacant land changes and future development, mostly from data-driven perspectives. I am also interested in how urban environmental designs impact the sustainability of natural and social environments.

Before joining Virginia Tech, I worked as a Chief Designer at Greenview Landscape Design Limited, Beijing, China for two years (2015 to 2017). I will obtain my M.S. from Virginia Tech under the supervision of Dr. Todd Shenk and Wenwen Zhang in 2020. Furthermore, I obtained my Master's from Auburn University under the supervision of David Hill in 2014. Auburn University's master of landscape architecture (M.L.A.) program is urban design based with emphasis on the role and restoration/regeneration of natural systems within the urban ecosystems/urban vacant land. The studio focuses on creating sustainable/dynamic places to enhance quality of life. Landscape architecture, traditionally it is artificial and emotional while urban planning is more abstract, scientific and theoretical. Finally, I received my Bachelor's degree from Capital Normal University in 2008.

RESEARCH CONFERENCE

  • Graduate Student

    • Council of Educators in Landscape Architecture (CELA) Conference, Sacramento, California, USA

Abstract Topic: A planning support system (PSS) for mitigating urban stormwater runoff in the United States (U.S.): Using vacant urban land as a resource

Peer-Reviewed Published Abstracts: Oral Presentations: This research will develop an open-source, web-based Use Data Viewer as a visual interface to explore quantitative planning support system (PSS) use data. The study will use the Python Django web framework for a PSS and the D3.js visualization library to create and deploy the tool. It will import state information to select countermeasures to support planners in collaboratively finding effective, supported, site-specific sets of mitigating urban stormwater runoff measures for a particular vacant urban lands (VUL) project. The result includes a filling knowledge base about reducing urban stormwater.
